Megan A. Evans-Rakeepile

Founder and Director

A Buffalo NY, native Megan Rakeepile brings over three decades of expertise in various dance styles, with a particular specialization in Afro-Caribbean and Afro-Fusion techniques. These genres, deeply rooted in the African diaspora and its resilience through colonization, serve as the foundation of her artistic vision. Megan’s formal dance training began at Miss Barbara School of Dance, Buffalo City Ballet, and the New York State Summer School of the Arts (NYSSSA), culminating in her graduation with a dance degree from Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts in 2008.

She advanced her professional training in Toronto, ON, where she joined the Professional Training Program (PTP) at Ballet Creole (2008-2010), earning certifications in modern, classical, traditional, and folkloric dance. In 2010, Megan returned to the United States to dance with Garth Fagan Dance Co. in Rochester, NY. During her year with the company, she refined her expertise in Fagan's renowned dance technique, which continues to influence her creative approach.

Upon returning to Buffalo in 2012, Megan initiated numerous community-based arts programs, collaborating with organizations such as Grace UCC, Fruit Belt Coalition, Urban Christian Ministries, New Generation Ministries, Matt Urban Center, and New Covenant UCC. Megan’s commitment to community engagement is reflected in her additional roles as a freelance choreographer and educator. She has partnered with institutions including Studio J, Buffalo State University, Peace of the City, the University at Buffalo, and the Community Health Center of Buffalo, where she serves as Project Manager for the Arts That Heal program. In 2023, Megan was awarded the NYS Choreographers Initiative Grant, a program of the NYS DanceForce, allowing her to focus on her development as a choreographer. Most recently, Megan received the Community Cares Grant, where she focuses on strengthening art advocacy programs for emerging artists from underrepresented communities.

Driven by a deep passion for fostering unity through the arts, Megan continuously strives to bring together artists from diverse backgrounds. Her work elevates cultural exchange and emphasizes the transformative power of dance in building community and inspiring creativity.
